September 2011
The Inter-District Matchplay Tournament playing for the Meg Nunn Salver was hosted by Central Qld District for 2011 and played at the Calliope Golf Club from 12th - 15th September. It was 29yrs since the inaugural event in Rockhampton. The first day of the event ended with a loss and a squared match for the D&SW team. On Tuesday morning they bounced back with a strong win against Brisbane District. Two team losses on Wednesday didn't seem quite so bad when the end of day points had them in 3rd place behind Brisbane and Wide Bay. | |
The leaders were drawn to play each other on the final day and Downs were hoping for a big win against Gold Coast who were in last place. Match wins from Dana, Marie, Carmel & Sharon and a square from Margaret achieved the result they were hoping for. A tense wait for the leaders to finish their matches resulted in a tie for second place with Brisbane District. Wide Bay Burnett District were outright winners on 31pts. |
All the team enjoyed a wonderful week of golf and camaraderie - thanks must go to our Captain, Margaret Adcock, Manager, Aleicia Freeman and District President Adele Roberts for their assistance during the week.
It was a credit to the groundstaff of the Calliope Course for having it in such good order following the very wet conditions experienced earlier in the year.
