The 10th annual Particularly Pink Golf Day met all expectations as a gaggle of giggling ladies took to the green fairways in St George and sent pink balls flying in a fun day to raise money for the local breast care nurse.

The nine hole, three ball Ambrose, sponsored by Rob McConnell Pro Golf Shop, Newforce Livestock, O’Brien Toyota and Webster’s Foodworks, saw 36 experienced and not-so-experienced players teamed together.

On Tuesday the 13th of September the fairways echoed with laughter and shrieks of “Fore!” as the ladies enthusiastically swung through the nine holes and raced back to a lavish champagne lunch at the Club House.

Welcoming the golfers back, St George Golf Club Associates President, Cheryl Brimblecombe said while numbers were down, quality was up. The ladies erupted into excited chatter as they tried to determine what Cheryl meant by the word ‘quality’.

Team of three winners on the day were Ginny Jamieson, Astrid Turner and Donna Halpin. Runners-up were Helen Turvey, Kay Collier and Kerry Gorring.

Second Runners-up were Bevis Sullivan, Irene Hourn and Kay Coutts and the Don Bradman Award for a cricket score effort on course went to Blanche McNelley, Deena O’Connell and Kathy Avery.

A special welcome back was given to renowned A Grade player Irene Hourn who was playing her first game in two years after recovering from illness.

Organiser of the day, Bindy Mace, then handed out the Bra-vo Awards for those who had war stories of tangling with trees, wildlife and each other.

Mrs Mace said everyone was tickled pink with the day which raised $1,383 for the local branch of the Breast and Prostate Cancer Association of Queensland.

“We’re all looking forward to doing it all again next year.”
