Over 400 players from 49 clubs across the state converged on the Sunshine coast from 20 - 22 May to play in the Qld Women’s Country Week events. 30 golfers from Toowoomba and players from Jandowae, Chinchilla, Oakey & Goombungee represented the district well in the three day event. The Foursomes Championships started off the week with players divided between the Tewantin Noosa and Mt Coolum courses. Good performances from local Toowoomba players resulted in a win for Cheryl Nugent & Anne Louise Kelly (City) and runners up Bindi Bridle and Helen Payne (Tba) in Division 2. The individual championships followed on Tuesday and Wednesday with players alternating courses. Outstanding rounds of 72 and 73 gave Samantha Foley(Royal Pines) an unassailable lead and the 2011 champion finished 19 strokes ahead of Josie Ryan from Headland. Margaret Richards from City Toowoomba was the 36 Hole Nett Winner. Cheryl Francis from City Tba club was 36 Hole Gross Runner Up in Bronze I Div II with Aliecia Freeman 36 Hole Nett winner and Jenny Bradford third on a countback. Judy Williams, a newcomer to golf, also from City was runner up in Bronze II division stableford event. Other good performances during the individual event came from Bindi Bridle, Merryl McCarthy, Weisia Nuttall & Jeni Shaw from Toowoomba. Jane Lindenberg (Tba) took home a nearest the pin prize. Both Tewantin Noosa and Mt Coolum hosted a fantastic few days and thanks to all the volunteers for the hours of work put in to the event.
